According to David Umahi, Minister of Works, the planned Lagos 4th Mainland Bridge Supersonic Highway would add four hours to the trip from Lagos to Abuja.
The Minister is said to have said this while continuing his tour of highway inspections on Thursday, August 31, 2023, when he visited the states of Ogun and Oyo.
According to a statement made by Blessing Lere-Adams, Director of Press and Public Relations for the Ministry of Works, on Friday.
Let me declare to you that Lagos planned 4th Mainland Bridge Supersonic Highway would take four hours to travel from Lagos to Abuja, Umahi reportedly remarked during a visit at the office of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.Driving from Lagos to Abuja would take four hours, and we will reach a conclusion on it within one to two months, the Minister said. “We had a presentation on it yesterday with the consultant, and it will be on Public Private Partnership (PPP) and work will start.”
He added, “We also bring some roads architecture into this kind of arrangement. We have a program called Highway Development Management Initiative (HDMI) and it allows states and other private investors to engage with the Federal Government either to take over a fully constructed road to toll and maintain it in partnership with FG or to take a brand new road and reconstruct it and toll it under laid down agreement. In order to monitor our roadways and improve visibility, we may install solar lights where CCTV can be installed. This would greatly decrease insecurity and also develop service stations. We can keep an eye on security at these gas stations, and we have toll vans and micro clinics there just as we do everywhere.
Umahi praised the Oyo administration for working on Federal Roads during a similar meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State in his office in Ibadan.
“You completed quite a few roads without first obtaining the necessary approvals; if we wait for the proper procedure to be followed in order to get reimbursement for our work on FG roads, our people will suffer. The previous governor of Ebonyi said, “We are thrilled with Governor Seyi Makinde, and we as a Government have also completed a lot of roads.
